Wesleyan women's basketball season ends in USAC Tourney

Greensboro, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan saw its 2008-09 women's basketball season come to a close on Tuesday evening, falling to top-seeded Greensboro College by an 85-48 score in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. Playing her final game for the Blue & Gold, senior Essence Chambers (pictured) scored a game-high 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and collected six steals. Her Battling Bishops finish the season with a 6-20 overall mark.

Chambers came out on fire, scoring 11 of the Bishops' first 14 points to keep her team in the game.  With Greensboro holding a slim 15-14 advantage at that point, back-to-back three-pointers by Katie Freeman and Dione Eccles midway through the period kicked off a 12-2 run that saw the Pride forge a double-figure lead that they would not relinquish.

The Pride went on to lead by 17 at the break, 44-27, and put to rest any thoughts of a Wesleyan comeback by opening up the second half with an 8-0 run.

For the Bishops, freshman T'Keya Holloway pulled down 10 rebounds to aid Chambers' efforts.  Greensboro was paced by Eccles' 16 points and 10 boards.
