NCWC women's basketball drops two at Emory Tourney

- The Battling Bishop women's basketball squad of North
Carolina Wesleyan suffered two losses this weekend at the
Emory University Tip-Off Classic in Atlanta, GA. The Bishops
fell to host Emory by a 76-51 score on Friday before
dropping a 58-41 decision to Rose-Hulman on Saturday.
Wesleyan is now 1-2 to start the season.
On
Friday, the Bishops trailed Emory 34-24 at the break and got
no closer than eight points in the second half. Trailing
51-43 with just under 10 minutes remaining, Wesleyan saw the
Eagles put together a 15-1 run over the next six minutes to
put the game out of reach.
Senior
Essence Chambers paced NCWC with a team-high 14 points.
Sophomore Gretchen Tobias added 13 points and a team-high
seven rebounds.
For
the game, the Bishops shot just 34 percent to the Eagles' 45
percent, and Emory managed a 44-30 advantage on the boards.
On
Saturday, Rose-Hulman forged a 26-20 lead at the half after
both squads struggled offensively in the opening period.
RHC held steady at 33 percent accuracy in the second half
and used a late 14-3 run to pull away for the victory.
Sophomore Desiree' Driver led Wesleyan with nine points,
while junior Triann Campbell chipped in six points and six
rebounds.
Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday, December 3rd versus
Chowan University. The game will serve as the Bishops'
2008-09 home opener and is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start in
Everett Gymnasium.
