His first Coach of the Year honor came in 1994 when his team finished with a school best 20-8 record.  That team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the  Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships.

His second Coach of the Year performance came in 1999 when his team won 19 games, won the Conference Tournament Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Mechanicsville, VA, Brackett graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan with a degree in Psychology in 1988.  He and his wife, Suzanne, have two children:  Michael (13) and Ashlee (7).  The family currently resides in Rocky Mount and are proud members of Southside Baptist Church.
