Program Overview Over
the past 20 years the women's basketball program at
North Carolina Wesleyan College has been very competitive and has earned recognition in
the USA South (formerly Dixie), South Region, and NCAA Tournament. We won
the Conference Championship in 1994 and 1999, while recording runner-up
finishes in 1990, 1995, and 1999. We were
ranked regionally in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, and 2002 and were also ranked 20th nationally in
1995.
Our best year was in 1994 when we finished 20-8, winning the Conference
Championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
We again reached the second round in 2002. We have had
numerous players named All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American over the
years.
We play a very competitive schedule. In the past we have played teams such
as Campbell University, Longwood College, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Marymount
University. We have also participated in tournaments in New York City, Philadelphia, PA,
Washington, DC and Virginia Beach. We play in one of the strongest conferences in the
nation and our tournament winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
As an NCAA Division III institution we offer no scholarships. We do, however, offer very
attractive financial aid packages based on individual need and academic ability.
Our players are the heart and soul of our program. Our success has been a direct result
of the kind of young women we have on our team. We seek individuals who are
self-disciplined, unselfish, team oriented, and who represent our program in a first class
manner. Everything we do is designed to insure that each of our players reaches her full
potential on the court and in the classroom. Many of our players have been named to the
school's Dean's List as well as the Dixie Conference All-Academic Team.
We offer student-athletes the opportunity to play college basketball in an exciting,
successful program while receiving an excellent education on a beautiful campus.
