Program Overview

Over the past 20 years the women's basketball program at North Carolina Wesleyan College has been very competitive and has earned recognition in the USA South (formerly Dixie), South Region, and NCAA Tournament. The Battling Bishops won Conference Championships in 1994 and 1999, while recording runner-up finishes in 1990 and 1995.  Wesleyan earned regional rankings in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, and 2002 and was ranked 20th nationally in 1995.

Wesleyan turned in its best season in 1994 when the Battling Bishops finished 20-8 overall, won the Dixie Conference Championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. NCWC again reached the second round of the tourney in 2002, and over the years, the Bishops have had numerous players garner All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American accolades.

Wesleyan plays a very competitive schedule. In the past, opponents have included teams such as Campbell University, Longwood College, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Marymount University. We have also participated in tournaments in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, and Virginia Beach. NCWC plays in one of the strongest conferences in the nation, and our tournament winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

As an NCAA Division III institution, Wesleyan offers no athletic scholarships. We do, however, offer very attractive financial aid packages based on individual need and academic ability.

Our players are the heart and soul of our program, and our success has been a direct result of the kind of young women we have on our team. We seek individuals who are self-disciplined, unselfish, team-oriented, and who represent our program in a first class manner. Everything we do is designed to insure that each of our players reaches her full potential on the court and in the classroom. Many of our players have been named to the school's Dean's List as well as the league's All-Academic Team.

We offer student-athletes the opportunity to play collegiate basketball in an exciting, successful program while receiving an excellent education on a beautiful campus.
