Lady Captains shutout Bishops in conference action, 3-0

Newport News, VA - North Carolina Wesleyan and Christopher Newport’s women’s soccer teams finally took the field on Friday afternoon after the two teams were washed out due to rain on Wednesday.  The Captains scored three times in the second half to defeat the Bishops by a 3-0 score and improve to 11-6 overall, 7-1 in USA South play.  The Bishops are now 4-11 on the season, 3-5 in league action.

Three different CNU players scored. Brittany Revels’ unassisted score 41 seconds into the second half proved to be the game-winner. Jenn Campbell scored in the 69th minute, also unassisted, and Liz Neusch scored the third goal with Katie Jaywork assisting.

CNU out-shot the Bishops 14-2 on the day. Captain goalie Dineen Sampson had one save in goal and recorded her fifth shutout of the year, while Bishop keeper Bryanne Godfrey recorded seven saves.

NCWC returns to action on Sunday when the Bishops wrap up their regular season at Averett Univeristy.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Danville, VA.
