down Mary Baldwin, fall at
Shenandoah

In this weekend's USA South women's soccer action, the
Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan split a pair of
matches on the road, downing Mary Baldwin by a 7-1 score on
Saturday before falling at Shenandoah by a 4-0 score on
Sunday. NCWC is now 4-6-1 overall, 2-2-1 in league play.
On Saturday at MBC, junior
Meredith Hester netted four goals, including the gamewinner
in the 8th minute of play. She went on to tally the
game's third, sixth, and seventh goals.
The Bishops, who led 3-1 at
the break, also got scores from Rachel Hernandez (35:50),
Reva McCloud (53:28), and Megan Kintner (89:57).
McCloud and freshman Carolina Mussi each had an assist.
Wesleyan out-shot the
Squirrels 27-6 in the contest and held and 8-4 advantage in
corner kicks. Junior keeper Sarah Hess picked up her
second win of the season in goal, allowing one goal and
making three saves. MBC goalie Nicole Croman made nine saves
in the losing effort.
On Sunday at SU, the
Bishops were held scoreless despite out-shooting the Hornets
11-7 on the day. Jessi Dennis, Lauren Mooris (2), and Shana
Sumers all delivered goals for Shenandoah. Dennis netted the
gamewinner in the 18th minute of play.
Senior keeper Bryanne
Godfrey suffered the loss in goal, while SU's Kat Terza
earned the win and shutout by making eight saves.
NCWC
returns to action at home on Wednesday when the Bishops host
Chowan University. Game time is slated for
4:00 p.m. at Scalf Field.
