Bishop women's soccer
falls at home to Chowan, 5-0
Rocky Mount, NC -
The North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team dropped a
5-0 contest to Division II Chowan University on Wednesday
afternoon at Scalf Field. The Hawks took a 2-0 lead into
intermission and went on to score three unanswered goals in
the second half. With the loss, the Bishops drop to
4-7-1 on the season, while Chowan now stands at 6-9 overall.
CU's Katie Perkins scored
the eventual gamewinner in the sixth minute, unassisted. The
goal was the first of two in the match for Perkins, who also
scored the Hawks' third goal at the 55:19 mark.
Ashley Bradford also
notched two scores for Chowan and added an assist on
another. Meredith McCarthy netted the final goal of the
contest in the 69th minute on Katie Duncan's second assist
of the day.
Both teams managed 16 shots
in the match. CU keeper Kristy Brown preserved the shutout
by making six saves in 90 minutes of play. NCWC starter
Sarah Hess allowed one goal and made one save in 17 minutes
in goal before being relieved by senior Bryanne Godfrey.
Godfrey proceeded to make four saves on 12 shots.
The
Bishops return to action on Sunday when they travel to
Methodist University. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in
Fayetteville.
