Hester paces Bishop women in 9-0 win over Sweet Briar
Sweet
Briar, VA -
Junior Meredith Hester tallied four goals on Saturday
afternoon as the North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team
cruised to a 9-0 win over Sweet Briar on the road. Hester
(pictured) also assisted on Reva McCloud's gamewinner in the
12th minute, while McCloud helped out by recording assists
on four other goals. The Bishops are now 2-3 on the season.
After
McCloud gave Wesleyan all the offense it would need at the
11:40 mark, Hester padded the Bishops' advantage with a
first half hat trick that saw her net scores in the 24th,
25th, and 33rd minutes. NCWC took a 4-0 lead into the break.
It was
more of the same from the Bishops in the second half as
McCloud booted home her second goal of the game on an assist
from freshman Courtney Jamieson. Up 5-0, subsequent
goals by Lauren Stearns (unassisted), Rachel Hernandez (from
McCloud), Hester (from Hernandez), and Joanne Youngblood
(from McCloud) rounded out Wesleyan's scoring.
NCWC
goalies Bryanne Godfrey and Sarah Hess shared the shutout
and made two saves apiece. SBC keeper Lindsay Arnold faced
20 shots and made five saves en route to the loss.
Wesleyan opens us USA South play on Wednesday when the
Bishops head to Meredith College. Game time is slated for
4:00 p.m. in Raleigh.
