Seven Bishops
garner USA
South tennis and golf awards
Fayetteville,
NC -
The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference
awards for tennis and golf with a total of 65 student-athletes garnering
recognition. In men's tennis, North Carolina Wesleyan had four players receive
accolades, highlighted by First Team selection and Rookie of the Year Antti
Saari. Freshman Jaime Galasso was a Second Team women's selection, while Ryan
Stugis earned Second Team honors in golf.

Bishop women fall in
season finale to
Chowan, 6-3
Rocky Mount, NC
- The North Carolina
Wesleyan women's tennis team saw its 2008 tennis
season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon,
falling to Chowan University by a 6-3 score. The
Bishops had previously fallen to Ferrum College
on Tuesday in the first round of the USA South
Conference Tournament. Freshman Jaime Galasso
won both of her matches at #1 singles, while
junior Ashley Ball picked up a singles and
doubles win against the Hawks.

Wesleyan Department
of Athletics is
pleased to announce
that freshman Jaime
Galasso has been
named the USA South's
Rookie of the Week
in women's tennis
for April 14th.
Galasso
(pictured) went 2-0
at #1 singles last
week, earning wins
over top players
from USA South
opponents Ferrum and
Mary Baldwin. She
also turned in a 1-1
record at #1 doubles
with a win over the
Panthers.

Methodist netters pick
up 9-0 sweeps over
Wesleyan
Rocky Mount, NC
- The men’s and women’s
tennis teams of
Methodist University
picked up 9-0 sweeps
over North Carolina
Wesleyan on Wednesday
afternoon at
the NCWC Tennis Complex.
With second place in the
league on the line, the
Monarch men remained
tied for first place with the
victory, while the
regionally-ranked Methodist
women dropped only one
game on the day.

2-1 in league play, women drop three
Greensboro, NC
- Senior Mike Harrison
and sophomore Matt Smith
went 2-1 in both singles
and doubles play this
week, leading their
Bishop men's tennis team
to two USA South
victories. Wesleyan fell
at Christopher Newport
9-0 on Friday, but the
Bishops took 5-4 and 7-2
matches against Averett
and Greensboro on
Sunday, respectively.
The women were not as
fortunate, dropping all
three contests on the
road.

Ball to serve as
Ambassador for "Tennis
Shoes 4 Africa"
Rocky
Mount, NC -
The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is
pleased to announce the creation of a new community
service initiative: Tennis Shoes 4 Africa. The project
was devised by head tennis coach Dominic Modise, while
Wesleyan junior Ashley Ball (pictured) is serving
as its current Ambassador. The program revolves around
the donation of used pairs of shoes that will be shipped
to Coach Modise's hometown of Mmabatho, South Africa,
where kids fight the effects of poverty and disease on a
daily basis.
