Huntingdon got
on the board in
the bottom of
the seventh
inning on a
RBI-single by
senior Tyler
Pruitt, and the
Hawks rallied
for a pair of
runs in the
eighth off of
NCWC hurler Ben
Moore.
HC's Kyle Eller
led all players
with three hits,
while Pruitt
added a pair of
base knocks.
Matt Smith
collected two
hits, while
Batts drove in
three runs to
pace the
Bishops.
On Friday at
LaGrange,
Wesleyan's Blake
Rice out-dueled
the Panthers'
Joey Merrifield.
Rice, who threw
a no-hitter in
his first start,
pitched a
complete game
five-hitter and
improved to 2-0
on the season,
walking one and
striking out
eight.
Merrifield also
went the
distance,
scattering eight
hits. He allowed
two earned runs,
walked two, and
struck out five.
The Bishops took
a 1-0 lead in
the top of the
first when Mark
Wooten drove
home Luke
Williford.
The Panthers,
however, tied
the game in
their half of
the frame and
took a 2-1 lead
in the second
when Blake Allen
drove in Korey
Ison with an
RBI-single to
right.
The Bishops
tied the game up
in the fourth
inning when
Jason Webb
scored during a
Chris Pecora
run-down, and
NCWC went on to
plate the
deciding run in
the fifth.
Wooten delivered
his second
double of the
game with one
out, and an
RBI-single up
the middle by
Ted Williams
gave Wesleyan a
3-2 lead and the
eventual win.
The road trip
ended at
Piedmont College
on Saturday with
the 5-4 loss.
The Bishops, who
trailed 4-1 in
the top of the
ninth, battled
back to tie the
game behind a
two-run double
by Mark Wooten
and RBI-single
by Batts.
Piedmont,
however, plated
the eventual
game-winner in
the bottom of
the frame.
Wooten finished
4-for-5 to pace
the Bishops
offensively,
while Batts
(0-1) took the
tough loss on
the mound.
