Wesleyan baseball falls in USA South Tourney Championship

Burlington, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball squad fell just short in its bid for a second USA South Tournament Championship in the last three years as the Bishops dropped two games to Christopher Newport on Sunday in Burlington. Having defeated Averett, Greensboro, and Methodist to advance to the championship as the lone remaining undefeated team, Wesleyan was a mere two outs away from an automatic bid to the NCAAs when CNU rallied to take the game 4-3 in extras. The Captains went on to secure the championship with a 12-3 win in game two.

Several Bishops enjoyed solid weekends, including Justin Batts, Travis Beausoleil, Daniel Moore, and Matt Smith as all four garnered All-Tournament honors. Batts batted .389 with eight RBI to lead the Bishops' offensive efforts.

On the mound, Kyle Robertson, Ben Moore, and Jonathan Lucas all earned wins.

Wesleyan (27-13-1) wraps up its regular season slate on May 4th when the University of Mary Washington visits Bauer Field for an afternoon twinbill. Game one is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start. The Bishops are still hoping for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
