Wesleyan men earn 7-0 win over Hornets on Senior Day

Rocky Mount, NC - The Battling Bishop men's soccer squad celebrated 2006 Senior Day with a 7-0 USA South win over Shenandoah University at Scalf Field.  With the victory, Wesleyan's perfect record stays in tact at 12-0 overall, while the Bishops are now 4-0 conference play and have won 16 straight regular season league matches dating back to the 2004 season.  Prior to the match, Wesleyan players and coaches recognized seniors Jeff Johnson, Mike Brown, Stephen Tupy, Yared Yedenekachew, Marcellus Jernigan, Salvador Benitez, and Shawn Dixon.  The Bishops also celebrated 2006 Parent's Day.

Oz Otoo netted the game's first goal just 2:12 into the match when he took a perfect pass from freshman Edgar Zaldivar.  Although the goal would prove to be all the Bishops would need, Wesleyan did not stop there.  Justin Thompson, Lucas Fuentes (penalty kick), and Kevin Lue each added first-half goals to give the Bishops a 4-0 advantage at the break.

Lue scored his second goal of the day in the 49th minute off of a Haraldur Haraldsson pass from beyond the midline.  Thorsteinn Georgsson and Alimamy Jabbie recorded the game's final two scores at thee 67:39 and 84:30 marks, respectively.

Wesleyan out-shot Shenandoah 16-6 on the day.  Bishop goalies Renato Corte (two saves) and Jeff Johnson shared the shutout, while Brian Garretson (one save) and Armand Bozorgmanesh (two saves) split time between posts for the Hornets.  Garretson was relieved in the 31st minute after receiving a red card, forcing SU to play a man down for two-thirds of the contest.

The Bishops will travel to Methodist College for a key USA South match-up on Monday.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Fayetteville.
