Bishops and
Monarchs fight
to 2-2 double
overtime tie

Wesleyan's men's
soccer team kept
its unbeaten
streak alive on
Monday
afternoon,
fighting to a
2-2 double
overtime tie on
the road at
Methodist
College.
The 10th-ranked Bishops, who
trailed 1-0 at
the half, took a
2-1 lead early
in the second
half but watched
the Monarchs net
the equalizer
with 16:01 left
in the contest.
The tie leaves
the Bishops with
a 12-0-1 mark
overall and a
4-0-1 record in
USA South play.
Methodist is now
10-2-1 on the
season, 1-1-1 in
league action.
Wesleyan fell
behind for only
the second time
this season when
MC's Desmond
Keane scored the
game's first
goal in the 37th
minute,
unassisted.
The Bishops
responded with
unassisted goals
by Oz Otoo and
Lucas Fuentes in
the 54th and
56th minutes,
respectively, to
take the 2-1
lead.
Keane was once
again the hero
for the Monarchs
when he booted
home a David
Giunti pass at
the 73:59 mark,
forcing the
Bishops into
their third
overtime game of
the season.
Wesleyan
out-shot
Methodist 5-0 in
the first
overtime but was
denied the
golden goal by
MC keeper Jeremy
Belnap.
The Monarchs
managed just one
shot in the
final extra
period.
Belnap finished
with four saves,
while Bishop
goalie Renato
Corte recorded
six. The
Bishops out-shot
the Monarchs
22-10 on the day
and recorded
nine more corner
kicks.
The Bishops will
travel to
Marymount
University on
Saturday for a
6:00 p.m.
contest.
