Bishops and Monarchs fight to 2-2 double overtime tie

Fayetteville, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan's men's soccer team kept its unbeaten streak alive on Monday afternoon, fighting to a 2-2 double overtime tie on the road at Methodist College.  The 10th-ranked Bishops, who trailed 1-0 at the half, took a 2-1 lead early in the second half but watched the Monarchs net the equalizer with 16:01 left in the contest.  The tie leaves the Bishops with a 12-0-1 mark overall and a 4-0-1 record in USA South play.  Methodist is now 10-2-1 on the season, 1-1-1 in league action.

Wesleyan fell behind for only the second time this season when MC's Desmond Keane scored the game's first goal in the 37th minute, unassisted.  The Bishops responded with unassisted goals by Oz Otoo and Lucas Fuentes in the 54th and 56th minutes, respectively, to take the 2-1 lead.

Keane was once again the hero for the Monarchs when he booted home a David Giunti pass at the 73:59 mark, forcing the Bishops into their third overtime game of the season.

Wesleyan out-shot Methodist 5-0 in the first overtime but was denied the golden goal by MC keeper Jeremy Belnap.  The Monarchs managed just one shot in the final extra period.

Belnap finished with four saves, while Bishop goalie Renato Corte recorded six.  The Bishops out-shot the Monarchs 22-10 on the day and recorded nine more corner kicks.

The Bishops will travel to Marymount University on Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
