Bishops blank Villa Julie in men's soccer action, 3-0

Stevenson, MD - Ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III National Poll, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team continued to build upon one of the most successful seasons in program history with a 3-0 win at Villa Julie College on Saturday afternoon.  The shutout is the 12th for the Bishops this fall and ties the program's season record set in 1986.  With the win, Wesleyan remains undefeated with a 15-0-1 overall record going into next Saturday's regular season finale against Christopher Newport.

Shawn Dixon scored the game's first goal, the eventual gamewinner, in the 33rd minute off an Oz Otoo free kick.  Junior Danny Jones also picked up an assist on the play.

The Bishops would take the 1-0 lead into the break and seal the victory with two Justin Thompson goals in the 53rd and 62nd minutes, respectively.

Wesleyan out-shot VJC 20-5 on the day.  Eric Lowman made nine saves for Villa Julie, while Bishop goalie Renato Corte did not face a shot-on-goal.

Next Saturday's match-up with CNU is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Scalf Field and will determine the 2006 USA South Conference Champion.  The Captains (5-0-0 USA South) will earn the title with a win or tie, while the Bishops (4-0-1 USA South) must win in order to secure their third straight league crown.
