Wesleyan men advance to second round with 1-0 victory

Virginia Beach, VA - Junior Alimamy Kargbo's unassisted goal with less than three minutes remaining in the first overtime period gave the 15th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Lynchburg in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday.  The win lifts the Bishops to 16-1-2 on the season and sends them to Sunday's second round play against host Virginia Wesleyan at 6:00 p.m.

Wesleyan out-shot Lynchburg 14-8 in the match.  Freshman goalie Renato Corte made three saves en route to the victory, while LC keeper Marcus Jordan also tallied three stops on the night.

After regulation ended in a scoreless tie, Kargbo (pictured) connected on the gamewinner at the 97:02 mark of the first overtime.  It was his first gamewinner of the season.

The Bishops will now take on host Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.  The Marlins advanced with a convincing 5-0 win over Greensboro College in first round play.
