Wesleyan soccer improves to 4-0 with win over Southwestern

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team managed only two goals on Saturday, but it was just enough as the Bishops downed Southwestern (TX) by a 2-1 score in game one of the 2006 Methodist College Classic.  Tied 0-0 at intermission, junior Danny Jones and freshman Edgar Zaldivar each netted second-half goals to secure the victory.  With the win, Wesleyan remains undefeated on the season at 4-0.

Jones broke the scoreless tie less than two minutes into the second period when he headed Thorsteinn Georgsson's cross past Southwestern goalie Ryan Tasin.

Wesleyan increased its lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute on Zaldivar's second goal of the season, which proved to be the eventual gamewinner.  Kevin Lue was credited with the assist.

SW's John Martinez managed a goal at the 59:00 mark, but it would not be enough as NCWC freshman goalie Renato Corte recorded six saves en route to his fourth victory.

Wesleyan returns to action on Sunday at the Methodist Classic.  The Bishops will take on Warren Wilson College at 4:00 p.m.
