NCWC men continue impressive play with weekend sweep

Hillside, NJ - The nationally-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team continued its impressive play over the weekend, downing Shenandoah and Kean by 2-0 and 3-1 scores, respectively.  Sophomore Kevin Lue tallied the game-winner on Saturday, while freshman Marco Kirsch (pictured) did the honors on Sunday.  Wesleyan keeps its perfect record in tact at 13-0-0 overall, including a 5-0-0 mark in USA South Conference play.

At Shenandoah on Saturday, the Bishops got all the offense they would need when Lue found the back of the net in the 38th minute.  Wesleyan added an insurance goal in the second half when Luke Oakley booted home a pass from Danny Jones.

Wesleyan out-shot the Hornets 21-4 on the day, while freshman keeper Alberto Faisca earned his eighth win and fifth shutout between the pipes.

On Sunday, the Bishops traveled to Kean University and took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by senior Alimamy Kargbo and Kirsch.  Kirsch's goal proved to be the eventual game-winner and came in the 26th minute of play.  Edgar Zaldivar was credited with the assist.

Kean managed a score just before the break for a 2-1 Bishop advantage at halftime.  The goal broke a streak of five straight Wesleyan shutouts.

Kirsch added an insurance goal on a penalty kick at the 71:45 mark to complete the game's scoring.  Faisca again earned the win and made five saves on the day.  NCWC out-shot KU 15-12 in the contest.

Wesleyan will now enjoy a nine-day break before returning to action at Guilford College on October 16th.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Greensboro.
