Bishops defeat Guilford 2-1, move up in national rankings

Greensboro, NC - The Battling Bishop men's soccer team defeated Guilford College by a 2-1 score on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro.  Wesleyan remains undefeated in 2007 and boasts a 14-0-0 overall record.  The Bishops, who are in the midst of a 40-game regular season unbeaten streak since 2005, are now ranked 2nd nationally by D3Kicks.com and 3rd by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Quakers (5-10-1) put up a valiant effort against the Bishops and forced a 1-1 tie at the half.  NCWC's Marco Kirsch scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, while GC's Peter Deng scored his first goal of the season, unassisted, just 12 minutes later.

Sophomore forward Kevin Lue, however, put Guilford's thought of an upset to rest at the 63:21 mark when he netted the game-winner on an assist from Jimmy Pierce.

Wesleyan out-shot Guilford 27-9 in the match.  NCWC keeper Alberto Faisca earned his 10th win of the season by making four saves.  GC's Beau Arceneaux suffered loss despite stopping seven shots.

Wesleyan returns to action on Sunday when the Bishops travel to Villa Julie College.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Stevenson, MD.
