- In Wednesday's
soccer action,
North Carolina
Wesleyan
overcame an
early 2-0
deficit to
defeat Division
II foe Barton
College by a 4-2
score in Wilson.
NCWC's Alimamy
Kargbo and
current USA
South Rookie of
the Week Marco
Kirsch each
netted
first-half goals
to tie the
contest at the
break, while
Kirsch and Edgar
Zaldivar
delivered scores
in the final
period to secure
the win.
The Bishops,
ranked 4th
nationally by
D3Kicks.com and
17th by the
NSCAA, are now
5-0-0 overall.
Barton jumped
out to an early
lead with two
goals in the
first 13 minutes
of play.
BC's Hector
Bermudez booted
home both goals,
the first in the
7th minute and
second in the
13th. He
was assisted by
Max Holly and
Fernando Guzman,
respectively.
Kargbo got
Wesleyan on the
board at the
24:29 mark with
an unassisted
goal, and Kirsch
followed with
the equalizer 13
minutes later.
Kirsch's goal
was also
unassisted as he
dribbled up the
middle and beat
two Bulldog
defenders.
The Bishops
regrouped at the
break, and
Kirsch's second
goal less the
two minutes into
the final period
proved to be the
eventual
gamewinner.
Edgar Zaldivar's
penalty kick in
the 49th minutes
gave Wesleyan
some much-needed
insurance down
the stretch.
Freshman goalie
Kevin Quicker
earned his third
win in goal,
facing four
shots and making
two saves.
Bullldog keeper
Matt Coble faced
15 Bishop shots
and tallied 11
saves on the
night en route
to the loss.
Wesleyan opens
up USA South
play on Saturday
at Ferrum
College.
