Wesleyan soccer remains undefeated, downs Barton 4-2

Wilson, NC - In Wednesday's soccer action, North Carolina Wesleyan overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Division II foe Barton College by a 4-2 score in Wilson.  NCWC's Alimamy Kargbo and current USA South Rookie of the Week Marco Kirsch each netted first-half goals to tie the contest at the break, while Kirsch and Edgar Zaldivar delivered scores in the final period to secure the win.  The Bishops, ranked 4th nationally by D3Kicks.com and 17th by the NSCAA, are now 5-0-0 overall.

Barton jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the first 13 minutes of play.  BC's Hector Bermudez booted home both goals, the first in the 7th minute and second in the 13th.  He was assisted by Max Holly and Fernando Guzman, respectively.

Kargbo got Wesleyan on the board at the 24:29 mark with an unassisted goal, and Kirsch followed with the equalizer 13 minutes later.  Kirsch's goal was also unassisted as he dribbled up the middle and beat two Bulldog defenders.

The Bishops regrouped at the break, and Kirsch's second goal less the two minutes into the final period proved to be the eventual gamewinner.  Edgar Zaldivar's penalty kick in the 49th minutes gave Wesleyan some much-needed insurance down the stretch.

Freshman goalie Kevin Quicker earned his third win in goal, facing four shots and making two saves.  Bullldog keeper Matt Coble faced 15 Bishop shots and tallied 11 saves on the night en route to the loss.

Wesleyan opens up USA South play on Saturday at Ferrum College.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
