Bishop men post
shutout over
Mary Washington,
4-0

- After
defeating the
2nd-ranked team
in the nation on
Wednesday, there
was no let down
for the North
Carolina
Wesleyan men's
soccer team on
Sunday as the
Bishops shutout
the University
of Mary
Washington by a
4-0 score at
Scalf Field.
Wesleyan remains
undefeated at
8-0-0 on the
season, while
the
regionally-ranked
Eagles drop to
6-2-0. The
Bishops also run
their regular
season unbeaten
streak to 34
games dating
back to the 2005
season.
Freshman Marco
Kirsch scored
the eventual
game-winner in
the 7th minute
when he lobbed a
shot over the
out-stretched
arms of Eagle
keeper Emmet
Rutkowski.
Robert Ivanovich
was credited
with the assist
on the play.
The talented
Kirsch assisted
the second goal
when he beat his
defender and
left a perfect
ball in the box
for senior Danny
Jones at the
50:26 mark.
Alimamy Kargbo
netted the
Bishops' final
two scores in
the 83rd and
86th minutes,
the first coming
off an Edgar
Zaldivar assist.
The Eagles were
not without
their fair share
of scoring
opportunities.
NCWC freshman
keeper Alberto
Faisca made
seven great
saves to
preserve the
shutout in goal.
Wesleyan
out-shot UMW
18-12 on the
day.
Rutkowski
finished with
eight saves in
the losing
effort.
Wesleyan returns
to action on
Wednesday when
the Bishops
travel to Chowan
University.
Game time is
slated for 2:00
p.m. in
Murfreesboro.
