Wesleyan downs St. Mary's College 6-1 in men's soccer action

Rocky Mount, NC - Senior Edgar Zaldivar tallied a goal and two assists on Tuesday afternoon to help lead his North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 6-1 victory over St. Mary's College (MD) at Scalf Field.
Zaldivar (pictured) assisted on the eventual gamewinner
in the 43rd minute and later scored the Bishops' fourth goal. Wesleyan has now won three straight to move to
7-6 overall.

Freshman Manuel Lomba Pacheco got the Bishops on the board with a goal at the 22:51 mark in the opening period. Zaldivar helped make it 2-0 just before the break when he headed a ball forward to Irvin Herrera, who shot right of SMC keeper Paul Spranklin.

In the second half, Arkadiusz Trochowski netted a goal in the 56th minute on assists from Florian Bertalan and Zaldivar, while Zaldivar made it 4-0 when he took a through-ball from Herrera and blasted a one-timer into the back of the net.

The Seahawks erased the shutout at the 69:33 mark on a header by Drew Gainey from Taylor Lewis, but the Battling Bishops quickly ended any thoughts of a comeback with scores by Ousman Sarr and Robert Invanovich in the 79th and 83rd minutes. Sarr's goal came on a perfectly execute give-and-go with Ivanovich off of a throw-in, while Muhseler was assisted by Pacheco.

Wesleyan out-shot St. Mary's 23-7 on the day and held a 10-3 advantage in corners. NCWC keeper Philipp Uttikal was credited with the win, allowing the lone goal and making three saves. Spranklin suffered the loss for SMC, recording eight saves on the day.

The Battling Bishops return to USA South action on Friday when they travel to Shenandoah University for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Hornets.
