Bishop Mamadou Danso acquired by D.C. United

Wesleyan men's soccer coach Jason Kilby is pleased to announce that former
Bishop Mamadou Danso has become the first NCWC player in history to join
the MLS (Major League Soccer). Danso, better known as "Futty" to his coaches and
teammates, was acquired by D.C. United and General Manager Dave Kasper on February

NCWC soccer excels
academically with 13 on President's Lists

Head men's soccer coach Jason Kilby is pleased to announce
that 13 of his Bishop players have received academic
recognition by being named to the Honors List or President's
List recently released by North Carolina Wesleyan College.
Those on the Honors List must have maintained at least a
3.75 grade point average over the fall semester, while those
on the President's List must have maintained at least a 3.25
grade point average.

tabbed All-Region; Persson named All-American

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has
released its 2008 All-Region and All-American teams.
North Carolina Wesleyan and head coach Jason Kilby are
pleased to announce that three Battling Bishops
garnered All-South Region recognition, while junior forward
Danny Persson (pictured) went on to earn First Team
All-American honors. The Bishops, who won the 2008 USA
South Conference Tournament and finished with a 16-3-2
overall record, received a a #24 national ranking in this
season's final poll.

Bishop soccer falls to
Emory in season-ending shootout, 3-2

In a thrilling NCAA Tournament Second Round match, the 4th-ranked
Eagles of Emory University advanced to the round of 16
after downing North Carolina Wesleyan in a shootout, 3-2. The two teams fought
to a 1-1 double-overtime tie before the Eagles' Jordan Edelman
gave Emory the right to move on in the tournament with a
successful penalty kick past the out-stretched hands of
NCWC's Alberto Faisca. The Bishops end their season with a
16-3-2 record. more >

goal keeps Bishops alive in NCAAs

In Thursday's NCAA Tournament action from Scalf Field, the
North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team turned in one of
the most exciting finishes in program history with a 4-3
overtime win over Virginia Wesleyan. Down 3-1 with less than
15 minutes remaining, the Bishops netted three unanswered
goals to steal the victory. Junior Edgar Zaldivar (pictured)
blasted home the equalizer with eight seconds remaining to
tie the score at 3-3, while freshman Owen White netted the
Golden Goal in the 95th minute to ignite the Bishop crowd.

South Tournament Championship

For just the second time in program history, the Battling
Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College are USA South
Tournament Champions! The 2nd-seeded Bishops downed
top-seeded Christopher Newport by a 2-1 score on Saturday
afternoon at Scalf Field, earning the league's automatic bid
to the NCAA Tournament. Freshman Stefan Hauksson was named
Most Valuable Player after scoring the eventual game-winning
goal late in the second half.
