NCWC men and women split soccer doubleheader at Chowan

Murfreesboro, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's and women's soccer teams managed a split of a non-conference doubleheader at Chowan University on Wednesday.  The Bishop men, ranked 9th nationally by the NSCAA and 4th by D3Kicks.com, were 8-0 winners over the Hawks and remain undefeated on the season at 9-0-0.  Wesleyan's women followed with a 3-0 defeat and drop to 1-6-0 overall.

Senior Danny Jones scored the eventual game-winner for Wesleyan in the 27th minute when he booted home a Marco Kirsch pass from 15 yards out.  Kirsch, Robert Ivanovich, and Kevin Lue gave the Bishops a 4-0 lead with three goals in a five-minute span near the end of the first half.

It was all Wesleyan in the final period as Ashton Youbuty, Luke Oakley, Tony Sciandra, and Jaine Lindo all tallied their first goals of the season for the 8-0 final.  The Bishops out-shot the Hawks 31-4 on the day and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Alberto Faisca stopped two Chowan shots en route to his fifth win of the season in goal.

In the women's game, the Hawks got all the offense they would need when Amanda Cothern tallied a goal in the 35th minute.  Chowan added a second goal just before the half.

Casey Driver secured the 3-0 final with the Hawks' third goal just 11 seconds into the final period.

Bishop keepers Sarah Hess and Bryanne Godfrey split time in goal and combined to make nine saves.  CU out-shot NCWC 22-12 in the game.

The Bishop men return to USA South play on Saturday when they host a Homecoming match-up with Methodist University at 3:00 p.m.  The NCWC women will be on the road at Peace College.
