WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT:
Wesleyan athletics to
provide first-ever online
webcasts
Rocky
Mount, NC
- The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of
Athletics is pleased to announce its plans
to provide the first-ever online webcasts
this Friday and Saturday from Scalf Field.
With the Bishop men’s soccer team playing
host to the USA South semifinals and
championship games, Wesleyan has teamed with
Future Media Sports to provide FREE live
coverage of all three games worldwide… an
added perk for the host Bishops, whose
roster currently boasts players from 11
different countries!
“This is
great exposure for both the USA South and
North Carolina Wesleyan,” said NCWC Sports
Information Director Rikki Rich. “Not only
is this a great recruiting tool, but it also
allows the parents of our current players to
enjoy live audio and video from anywhere in
the world.”
After
meetings and discussions between Rich, the
USA South Conference Office, and NCWC’s
Information Systems Department, Future Media
World was chosen to provide both audio and
video streaming. Wesleyan already possesses
the equipment needed to broadcast, while
Future Media will provide the server. This,
in turn, will not affect the speed of the
campus network.
Thanks to
an NCAA Technology Grant received by the USA
South, there will be no cost for Wesleyan to
provide this coverage. Additionally, all
three game will be archived by the league.
Added Rich,
“This has been a total team effort. There
have been several discussions over the past
two years regarding the feasibility of
providing live coverage of Bishop athletics,
and we feel that this is a major step in the
direction we would like to go in the
future.”
The USA
South Tournament kicks off on Tuesday
evening with seeds #3 through #6 playing
quarterfinal games. NCWC, currently ranked
2nd nationally, and Christopher Newport have
received first round byes and will await
Tuesday’s winners.
Rich will
be building and releasing a tournament
website on Tuesday afternoon, which will
house a link to Friday and Saturday’s live
webcasts. If you would like more
information on this exciting step for Bishop
athletics or if you would like to help with
projects such as this in the future, please
feel free to contact the North Carolina
Wesleyan Sports Information Office at
