WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT:  History in the making... Lenny Hall breaks basketball scoring record

Rocky Mount, NC - Have you ever wondered exactly what it takes to become the all-time scoring leader of a collegiate basketball program?  For North Carolina Wesleyan's Lenny Hall, it took 96 games, 532 field goals, 129 three-pointers, and 590 free throws.  Add those up and Hall has now amassed 1,783 career points, setting a new Battling Bishop record.

The previous record of 1,776 points was set by former Bishop standout Chris Bratcher and stood for nearly 20 years. That is, until Tuesday night.

Thanks to an ideal scenario, Wesleyan fans were able to cheer on the talented senior in Everett Gymnasium as he netted the final 15 points he needed to break the record. Even more fittingly, the feat came in an impressive 123-88 win over rival CNU... a team that Hall has tormented over the past three seasons.

The preseason All-American drained his 15th point of the contest at the 13:15 mark of the second half, officially making it a historic night. Time was stopped as head coach John Thompson presented Hall with a game ball commemorating the occasion. He went on to score six more before calling it a night.

Avid hoops fans know how rare moments like these are. It could easily be another 20 years before Bishop fans have an opportunity to witness such a feat... or if Hall has his way, never again. After all, he will have at least 12 more games to add to the mark, and if he can lead his talented Bishops to the NCAA Tournament, even more!

Avid hoops fans also know that basketball is a team sport.  For a brief moment on Tuesday, however, it was Lenny's time to shine as an individual.  So many players dream of a moment like this.. so few accomplish it.  For that, North Carolina Wesleyan offers sincere congratulations to Lenny Hall, the Bishops' all-time scoring leader.

A Wilmington, NC native, Hall is the son of Leonard Hall, II and Valerie Troy.  A three-time All-Conference selection and Most Valuable Player, he is seeking his bachelor's degree in Business Administration and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
