WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT:
North Carolina Wesleyan's
Martha Proctor... co-worker
and friend
Rocky
Mount, NC -
Over the course of a
lifetime, there are few
individuals that truly make
a difference and touch the
lives of those around them.
These individuals usually
embody the same qualities:
honesty, loyalty, integrity,
generosity, compassion,
humility... the list goes on
and on. The Department
of Athletics at North
Carolina Wesleyan College is
blessed to have one such
individual on its staff:
Mrs. Martha Proctor.
Martha
began her tenure with
Bishop Athletics a little
over five years ago as an
administrative assistant.
Since that time she has
balanced budgets, entered
purchase orders, decorated
ceremonies, taken minutes,
organized work study, made
reservations... once again,
the list goes on and on.
A woman of many talents, she
has even served as an
announcer at several games!
"Martha is absolutely the
best, and I don’t know what
we would do without her,"
says Director of Athletics
John Thompson. "She is a
tireless worker, completely
devoted to athletics, and is
tremendously loyal."
States head baseball coach
Charlie Long, “Martha is the
most genuine person I know.
She is responsible for much
of the success that we enjoy
in our department!”
However, Martha is much more
than a co-worker; she has a
become a friend and
confidant for nearly every
coach and staff member
within the department, as
well as the
student-athletes. She
has been with the Bishops
during huge wins and tough
losses, but through thick
and thin, you can always
count on her for an
encouraging smile and a
"Bless your heart!"
"Those who are fortunate
enough to have their lives
touched by Martha know right
away that she is their
friend, but most of all a
trusted friend," says Gary
Sherman, NCWC Vice President
for Enrollment Management.
The
entire Wesleyan family
benefits from Martha's
contagious personality.
One would be hard-pressed to
find anyone on campus that
does not know this special
lady. In 2006,
Wesleyan showed its
appreciation by presenting
Martha with its
Distinguished Staff Member
Award... the highest honor
one can receive from his/her
co-workers.
Adds Thompson, "Martha has a
great impact on students,
staff, alumni... really all
of those who come in contact
with her on a daily basis.
Her senses of style, class,
humor, dignity, and what is
right positively affect our
offices everyday.”
The Rocky
Mount community is also
blessed to have such a
valued citizen. Martha
is a past member of the
Junior Guild and Junior
Woman's Club. She is
also actively involved at
Sunset Baptist Church where
she and her husband, Sam,
are members.
Without a
doubt, Martha has become a
staple at North Carolina
Wesleyan and in her
hometown. It is with
great pride that the
Department of Athletics
takes this time to honor
Mrs. Proctor and her loyalty
to the Battling Bishops.
Head
football coach Jack Ginn
said it best when he
jokingly stated, "When I
grow up, I hope to become
half the person Martha is."
We all
do, Jack. We all do.
