WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT:
Former Wesleyan
basketball standout debuts in England
Rocky Mount,
NC - For some,
playing a professional basketball game for a new
team after enduring an overseas flight and timezone
changes could be overwhelming. Not so for
former Battling Bishop men's basketball standout
Keith Sudler. Having gone over 30 hours
without sleep, Sudler recently debuted with the
Coventry Crusaders in England. How did he do? He
calmly knocked down 7-of-9 three-point attempts and
poured in a team-high 25 points.
Sudler's
Crusaders opened their 2007-08 campaign with a
thrilling win over the Derby Trailblazers.
Coventry started well and led from the tip.
Sudler led the way with 11 points in the first
quarter, including three treys. A solid
second quarter gave the Crusaders a 48-39
halftime lead.
Although
Derby played better in the second half, the
Crusaders managed to hold on for an 82-77
victory. In the process, Sudler and his
teammates set a new record for three-pointers
made in a game with 17 on the night.
Not bad for
stepping off a plane and onto the court...
Sudler attended NC
Wesleyan from 2000 to 2004 and is the third leading
scorer in Bishop history with 1,664 career points.
He also ranks third in free throw shooting
percentage at 82.6% and sixth with 558 career
rebounds. Sudler was the Most Valuable Player
of Thompson's 2003-04 squad.
Having
played in both England and Argentina, Sudler is the
sixth North Carolina Wesleyan men's basketball
player to continue a professional career after
completing his tenure with the Bishops.
