WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT: North Carolina Wesleyan
football honors 2008 senior class

- Prior to the start of Saturday's football game
versus Greensboro College, head coach Mark Henninger and his
Battling Bishop squad honored their 2008 seniors. Fourteen
young men comprise this year's class, thirteen of which are
four-year letterwinners. Below is a brief description of
each player's career.

#4 Nigel Rodgers – A native of
Washington, NC, Nigel is a four-year letterwinner for the
Bishops at defensive back and has tallied 68 tackles during
his collegiate career. The son of Thomas and Stephanie
Rodgers, he is majoring in Psychology.
#5 Damian Hopkins – A native of
Chesapeake, VA, Damian is a four-year letterwinner for the
Bishops at linebacker and has tallied 26 tackles and two
interceptions during his Blue & Gold career. The son of
Corey and Michelle Etheridge, he is majoring in Computer
Information Systems.
#6 Matt Bass – A native of Kenansville,
NC, Matt is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops at wide
receiver and has averaged over nine yards per catch during
his Wesleyan career. The son of Eddie and Chris Bass, he is
majoring in Accounting.
#16 Cliff Edmundson – A native of
Clayton, NC, Cliff is a four-year letterwinner for the
Bishops at linebacker and has tallied 65 tackles and one
interception during his collegiate career. The son of
Clifton and Karla Edmunson, he is majoring in Justice
Studies.
#35 Reshard Patterson – A native of
Lancaster, SC, Reshard is a four-year letterwinner for the
Bishops at defensive back and has recorded well over 100
tackles in his career. Additionally, he has tied the
program’s season record for interceptions this fall with
four. The son of Vickie Patterson, he is majoring in
Computer Information Systems.
#38 Micke’l Cahoon – A native of
Creswell, NC, Micke’l is a four-year letterwinner for the
Bishop at linebacker and has turned in a stellar senior
campaign with 23 tackles, including 11 for a loss. The son
of Jackie Joyner, he is majoring in Business Administration.
#39 Carlos Railey – A native of Stafford,
VA, Carlos is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops at
linebacker and has tallied 35 tackles and two interceptions
this season. In the classroom, he was recently named to the
ESPN Academic All-Region team. The son of Carlos and Stevie
Railey, he is majoring in Computer Information Systems.
#54 Aaron Durant – A native of Sumter,
SC, Aaron is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops on the
defensive line and has recorded 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks
during his Blue & Gold career. The son of Vernell and Laurie
Buckman, he is majoring in Computer Information Systems.
#60 Russell Rouse – A native of Kinston,
NC, Russell is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops and
tallied 27 tackles on the defensive line before making the
transition to the offensive line this season. The son of
Russell Rouse, Sr. and Temar McIver, he is majoring in
Education.
#61 Joseph Stutts – A native of Clayton,
NC, Joseph is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops on
the offensive line and is a current Scholar Baller and
Academic All-Conference performer. The son of Jody and Nancy
Stutts, he is majoring in Business Administration.
#63 Reggie Wells – A native of
Portsmouth, VA, Reggie is four-year letterwinner for the
Bishops on the offensive line. He, too, is a current
Scholar Baller and Academic All-Conference performer. The
son of Reginald and Cheryl Wells, he is majoring in
Business Administration.
#64 Travis Kivett – A native of Liberty,
NC, Travis is a four-year letterwinner for the Bishops. The
program’s first Academic All-Region selection in 2006, the
former defensive lineman made the transition to the
offensive line this season. A Business major, he is the son
of Bobby and Maridee Kivett and serves as President of
Wesleyan’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
#88 Quinderra Spellman – A native of
Elizabeth City, NC, Quinderra is a four-year letterwinner
for the Bishops at defensive end and is a former USA South
Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Conference selection.
He will leave the program as the all-time leader in sacks
with 14 during his career. The son of Quinton Brickhouse and
Katherine Perry, he is majoring in Exercise Science.
#93 Richard Wiggins – A native of
Morgantown, WV, Richie lettered in tennis for one season
with the Bishops before joining Wesleyan football program
this season as a punter. The son of Richard and Nancy
Wiggins, he is majoring in Justice Studies.

On behalf of the
North Carolina Wesleyan football program, the Battling
Bishops would like to thank each of these young men for
their contributions to the College both on and off the
field. You’ve been instrumental in the success of our young
program and will be truly missed next season.
