WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT:
Battling Bishops prepare for USA
South Spring Festival in Burlington
Rocky Mount, NC
- The USA South
Athletic Conference is once again preparing for its annual
Spring Festival as tournaments
for baseball, softball, women's lacrosse, men's tennis,
women's tennis and men's golf all begin this week. With the
exception of lacrosse and women's tennis, all sports will be
played exclusively in Burlington, NC for the fourth
consecutive year. Both the lacrosse and women's tennis
tournaments will get underway with play-in matches on
Tuesday.
The baseball
tournament will run from Thursday, April 16 through Sunday,
April 19 at Burlington Athletic Stadium, home of the Minor
League Burlington Royals. The tournament will feature a
double-elimination format and include all seven USA South
teams. The tournament's championship game(s) on Sunday are
scheduled to be available live online via video webcast, at
no charge.
North
Carolina Wesleyan will be the #1 seed after capturing the
2009 Regular Season Title for the 16th time in program
history. The Battling Bishops (20-15) will face off against
either #4 Shenandoah or
#5 Greensboro on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.

Across town
at Springwood Park, the softball and lacrosse tournaments
will begin on Friday, April 17. The softball tournament is a
three-day event which includes all ten Conference teams,
while the lacrosse competition will conclude in two days and
feature the league's top three teams with the addition of a
play-in game winner. As is the case with baseball, both the
lacrosse championship game on Saturday and the softball
championship game(s) on Sunday are scheduled to be video
webcasted.
In
softball, Wesleyan (9-23) will be the #9 seed and take on #8
Averett at 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning.

Mill Creek
Golf Course will play host to the men's golf championship,
which begins on Friday, April 17. The championship will
include all seven USA South teams competing in a three-day,
54-hole, event with the final round taking place on Sunday.

Finally, the
men's and women's tennis tournaments will be held at
Burlington Tennis Center on Friday, April 17-19. All seven
Conference men's teams will meet in Burlington, while the
league's top six women's teams will welcome the winners of
two play-in matches. The men will open play on each of the
first two days, followed by the women. Both the men and
women will begin their championship round at 10:00 a.m. on
Sunday. An added element to this year's tournament will be a
live audio broadcast of the championship rounds on Sunday.
North
Carolina Wesleyan's men will be the #1 seed after capturing
the 2009 Regular Season Title for the fourth time in program
history. The Bishops (12-0), who are currently undefeated
and ranked #23 in the nation, will play their first match on
Saturday at 10:00 a.m., while on the women's side, NCWC
(1-14) will travel to Ferrum College on Tuesday afternoon
for a 3:00 p.m. play-in match versus the Panthers.
