Department
of Athletics
is pleased
to announce
that
three
Battling
Bishop
athletes
have earned
USA South
Weekly
accolades in
their
respective
sports.
Senior
Brittany
Insley of
volleyball
was named
Player of
the Week,
while
freshmen
Kristin
Seidel and
Jack Gilbert
were named
Rookies of
the Week in
women's
tennis and
men's golf,
respectively.
Volleyball
Player of
the Week
Brittany
Insley, a
native of
Arlington,
OH, posted a
.388 attack
percentage
and averaged
4.4 kills,
2.6 digs and
1.0 block
per set last
week as the
Bishops
posted a 4-0
record. In
Tuesday's
3-1 win over
USA South
foe
Meredith,
Insley
recorded a
team-high 13
kills, ten
digs, four
blocks, two
assists and
one service
ace. She
followed
that up with
a match-high
19 kills,
seven digs,
three blocks
and two
service aces
in a 3-0 win
over Salem
on Thursday.
On Saturday,
Insley led
Wesleyan to
3-0 and 3-1
victories
over Mary
Baldwin and
Greensboro,
respectively,
with a
combined 30
kills and
.500 hitting
percentage
in the two
contests.
Wesleyan has
now won five
straight
matches to
improve to
7-6 overall.
Women's
Tennis
Rookie of
the Week
Kristin
Seidel, a
native of
Laaken,
Germany,
totaled a
4-0 singles
record and a
1-1 doubles
mark at
Methodist
Fall
Invitational
last week.
In the "C"
singles
bracket,
Seidel won
four
consecutive
matches to
win the
tournament.
Her wins
came over
players from
Methodist
and
Meredith. In
doubles
action,
Seidel
teamed with
Bristy
Parker to
finish as
runners-up
in the "C"
bracket.
Men's Golf
Rookie of
the Week
Jack
Gilbert, a
native of
London,
England,
shot a
one-over par
145 to tie
for third at
the NC
Wesleyan
Fall
Challenge.
Gilbert led
the Battling
Bishops to a
second-place
finish in
the two-day
tournament.
He shot a
first round,
three-over
par 75, then
followed
with a
two-under
par 70 in
round two.
