Five
Bishops garner USA South Athlete of the Week accolades

is pleased
to announce
that
five
Battling Bishop athletes have earned USA South Athlete of
the Week accolades in their respective sports. Teron Bush
and James Wallace of football were tabbed Offensive Player
and Defensive Rookie of Week, while Kelly George of
volleyball was named Defensive Player of the Week. In men's
tennis, Wesleyan swept two awards as Alexey Rumyantsev and
Erkut Cakmak garnered Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
These are the first awards of the season for all five
players.
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Teron Bush, a senior running back from Newport News, VA,
recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season as
the Battling Bishops defeated USA South foe Ferrum, 34-24.
Bush averaged 6.2 yards-per-rush as he carried the ball 19
times for 117 yards with one touchdown. He also caught four
passes for 52 yards as he led Wesleyan with 169 all-purpose
yards in the win.
FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
James Wallace, a freshman linebacker from Harrells, NC,
had nine total tackles, one of which was a sack, in a 34-24
win over USA South foe Ferrum. Wallace accounted for two
solo tackles and seven assisted take downs. His lone sack
was the first of his career and was good for a loss of six
yards. Wallace also had a pass breakup in the win.
VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kelly George, a junior libero from Derwood, MD, averaged
5.18 digs per set last week as the Battling Bishops posted a
3-0 record, all versus USA South competition. In a 3-1 win
over Methodist, George recorded 15 digs with three assists
and one service ace, an in a 3-0 victory over Peace, she
contributed a match-high 24 digs with two service aces.
Finally, in a 3-1 win over Shenandoah, George tallied a
match-high 18 digs with two assists and one service ace.
MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alexey Rumyantsev, a sophomore from Moscow, Russia,
tallied a 4-0 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark at the
Methodist Fall Invitational last week. In the "A" singles
bracket of the tournament, Rumyantsev swept through the
competition, including teammate Antti Saari in the finals.
In doubles action, Rumyantsev teamed with Saari to reach the
finals before being defeated.
MEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Erkut Cakmak, a freshman from Istanbul, Turkey, tallied
a 4-0 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark at the Methodist
Fall Invitational last week. In the "C" singles bracket of
the tournament, Cakmak swept through the competition,
defeating teammate Dominic Forsdike for the championship. In
"C" flight doubles action, Cakmak teamed with Fred Lemongo
to advance to the final round before being defeated.
