Trio of Bishops named USA South Athletes of the Week

Fayetteville, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that three Battling Bishop athletes have earned USA South weekly accolades. Bryan Haywood of football picked up his second straight Offensive Player of the Week award, while Benjamin Kruk and Michael Muhseler of men's soccer were named Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Senior running back Bryan Haywood, a native of Chocowinity, NC, set a new NC Wesleyan single-game rushing record in a 42-32 win over USA South rival Methodist. Haywood accumulated 203 yards rushing on 25 carries, good for an 8.1 yard average. He also accounted for three rushing touchdowns with his final score coming with under three minutes remaining in the game.

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Sophomore goalkeeper Benjamin Kruk of Hamburg, Germany earned his first Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping the Bishops to a 2-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In the two contests, Kruk played all 180 minutes between the posts without allowing a goal while stopping seven shots. In a 2-0 win over Methodist, Kruk made four saves, and in a 4-0 victory over Greensboro, he stopped three shots.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Michael Muhseler, a freshman forward from Hanover, Germany, scored twice in Wesleyan's two victories. In NCWC's 2-0 win over Methodist, Muhseler was held scoreless but managed two shots. He followed that up with a pair of goals versus the Pride, tallying the final two goals of the match in the 50th and 67th minutes, respectively.

Congratulations to all three athletes on their stellar performances!
