NCWC softball splits with Guilford, prepares for tourney

Rocky Mount, NC - Freshman Tiffany McCord earned her second win of the season on Friday, leading her North Carolina Wesleyan softball squad to an 8-1 victory in game two of its doubleheader with Guilford College at Edge Field.  The Bishops dropped game one by a 4-1 score and are now 19-11 on the season.

McCord went the distance in the nightcap, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run.  She also struck out three and walked one.

Offensively, Ashlee Bass and Hannah Hardy were each 3-for-4 with Hardy driving in three runs.

In the opener, the Quakers used a three-run third inning to steal a 4-1 win.  Libby Fulford took the loss for the Bishops, while GC's Taryn Pulvermuller allowed just five Wesleyan hits en route to the win.

The Bishops will travel to Chowan University on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader with the Hawks.

Wesleyan will then prepare for this weekend's USA South Conference Tournament.  With a 7-7 league record, Wesleyan will enter as the #5 seed and take on #4 Peace on Friday at 12:00 p.m. in Burlington.  NCWC finished third at last year's tournament.
