Meredith downs Wesleyan in
volleyball home opener, 3-1

- After dropping game one by a 30-22
score, the Angels of Meredith
College came back to sweep games
two, three, and four for a 3-1 win
over North Carolina Wesleyan,
ruining the 2006 volleyball home
opener for the Bishops.
Meredith earns its first win of the
season and is now 1-4, while
Wesleyan drops to 0-5 on the young
season. Game scores were
22-30, 30-23, 30-11, and 30-16.
Wesleyan rode the impressive play of
freshman Brittany Insley to a game
one win. Insley tallied a
career-high 19 kills and 10 digs in
the losing effort.
After taking game game two by a
30-23 score, it was all Meredith in
game three as the Angels jumped out
to a 13-0 lead. They never
looked back in sealing the 3-1 win.
Lauren Powers led Meredith with 17
kills. Laura Sayabouth turned
in 22 assists and 11 service aces,
while freshman Rocky Mount native
Anna Taylor tallied six service aces
of her own. Sara Elliot
anchored the Angel defensive effort
with 15 digs.
In
addition too Insley's play, Caitlin
George recorded season-high 35
assists and 10 digs.
The Bishops will
travel to Roanoke College this
coming weekend for a four-game
tournament, beginning with Friday’s
4:00 p.m. match with Sweet Briar
College.
