Insley leads volleyball to four wins at Chowan Tournament

Murfreesboro, NC - Sophomore Brittany Insley amassed 89 kills over a six-game span this weekend, leading her North Carolina Wesleyan volleyball squad to a 4-2 record and runner-up finish at the Chowan University Invitational Tournament.  The Bishops recorded two wins over USA South foe Peace College, as well as 3-0 sweeps of Salem and St. Paul's, while both losses came at the hands of host Chowan.  Insley (pictured) was named to her second All-Tournament team in as many weekends.  Wesleyan is now 6-5 overall on the season.

Wesleyan opened up play on Friday afternoon with 3-0 sweeps of Salem (30-8, 30-26, 30-17) and Peace (30-13, 30-21, 30-27).  Against Salem, senior Caitlin George turned in a solid performance with 27 assists, 17 digs, and seven service aces.  Insley added 14 kills.

The Peace game again saw George and Insley shine with 30 assists and 13 kills, respectively.  Junior Sydney Bens anchored the defensive effort with eight digs.

The Bishops opened up play on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over St. Paul's (30-19, 30-14, 30-12).  Insley totaled 16 kills and six aces, while George chipped in 40 assists.  Kelly George tallied 11 digs.

Chowan managed to end Wesleyan's three-game winning streak with a sweep of its own in the next match (30-18, 31-29, 30-24).  Insley's 15 kills, three blocks, and 12 digs completed a solid performance.

Wesleyan's next game against Peace proved to be the most grueling of the tournament.  Down two games to none, NCWC battled back with wins in games three and four to force a fifth and deciding game.  A 15-11 victory gave the Bishops a 3-2 match win (26-30, 28-30, 30-22, 30-23, 15-11).  Kelly George turned in a career high 22 digs, while Bens added three aces.

The tournament's final game once again saw the host Hawks prevail over Wesleyan with a 3-1 win (30-19, 33-35, 30-26, 30-23).  Caitlin George tallied 37 assists, while Insley and Bens recorded a season-high 29 digs apiece.  Insley added her final 13 kills and five blocks of the tournament.

The Bishops will open up USA South play on Tuesday night when they host Meredith College.  Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
