CNU volleyball wins five-gamer over Bishops, 3-2

Newport News, VA - In Tuesday night's USA South volleyball action, homestanding Christopher Newport managed to steal a 3-2 victory over the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan.  Game scores were 27-30, 30-15, 30-21, 28-30, and 15-8.  The Captains recorded a .289 hitting percentage to the Bishops' .098 in moving to 8-5 overall, 4-0 in conference play.  With the loss, Wesleyan is now 9-7 on the season, 2-2 in league action.

Sophomore Brittany Insley turned in a team-high 16 kills and 27 digs for the Bishops, while senior Caitlin George chipped in 42 assists.  George and Sydney Bens also amassed 20 digs apiece.

For CNU, Ellen Koch recorded a game-high 21 kills against just two errors.  Brittany Collins and Christie Kirby contributed 36 assists and 29 digs, respectively.

The Captains, who struggled with 15 service errors, won the blocking battle with 11.5 total stops to Wesleyan's 1.5.

The Bishops will take a short break from conference play on Thursday night when Guilford College visits Everett Gymnasium.  Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
