Pietryk earns 100th coaching win with Battling Bishops

Harrisonburg, VA - Head coach Robin Pietryk (pictured) did not take long to capture North Carolina Wesleyan's first milestone of 2007, earning her 100th career coaching victory at the helm of the Battling Bishop volleyball program on Saturday afternoon.  The win came at the hands of tournament host Eastern Mennonite in a dominating 3-0 Wesleyan sweep.  With an earlier win over Mary Baldwin on Friday, the Bishops secured a four-game split at the EMU tourney with a 2-2 record.

In Friday's season opener, the Bishops dropped a 3-0 contest to Frostburg State by 30-20, 30-22, and 30-28 scores.  Senior setter Caitlin George tallied 17 assists, while junior Sydney Bens recorded eight kills and seven digs.  Sophomore Brittany Insley turned in a team-high five blocks.

Wesleyan rebounded in the nightcap with a 3-0 sweep of Mary Baldwin.  Game scores were 30-16, 30-19, and 30-23.  George again paced the Bishops with 22 assists, while Insley amassed 12 kills.  Bens contributed five digs defensively and added four service aces.

On Saturday, Bridgewater handed Wesleyan a 3-1 defeat in the day's first game by 30-22, 30-27, 24-30, and 30-22 scores.  George tallied 21 assists and Insley 15 kills in the losing effort.  Freshman Libero Kelly George turned in 12 digs to pace the Bishop defense.

In Pietryk's milestone game, Wesleyan swept Eastern Mennonite in dominating fashion.  Game scores were 30-25, 30-28, and 30-22.  Bens and Insley recorded 14 and 10 kills, respectively, while Caitlin George chipped in 32 assists.  Kelly George again led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while fellow freshman Brittany Nichols tallied three service aces.

For her solid performance over the weekend, Insley was named to the EMU All-Tournament team.

The Bishops will host their 2007 home opener on Tuesday night when Virginia Wesleyan visits Everett Gymnasium.  Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
