Greensboro women down Wesleyan in hoops action, 88-54

Rocky Mount, NC - Paced by Staci Humphrey’s game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds, the Lady Pride of Greensboro College cruised to an 88-54 victory in Saturday afternoon’s USA South basketball action at Everett Gymnasium.  Greensboro jumped out to a 50-25 lead at the break and did not look back in moving to 9-5 on the season, 3-1 in conference action.  The Bishops, who honored 2007 Parent’s Day prior to the game, now stand at 4-8 overall, 1-3 in league play.

The Pride shot an impressive 60 percent (21-of-35) from the floor in the first half en route to a 25-point advantage at intermission.  Down 5-4 just minutes into the game, GC’s Amoria Bird converted an offensive put-back to give the Pride their first lead at 6-5.  Greensboro would not trail again.

Humphrey led the way with 16 points in the period, while Shameika Faircloth paced Wesleyan with a team-high 10 points.

The second half was more of the same from the Pride, whose lead grew to as large as 36 at one point.  GC finished game shooting nearly 51 percent.  The Bishops struggled at just 25 percent, but NCWC managed to knock down a solid 25-of-31 attempts at the free throw line.

Bobbie Barnes chipped in 16 points and Jamie Motzinger 14 to go along with Humphrey’s 25.  Bird added a double-double with 12 point and 10 rebounds.

For Wesleyan, Faircloth finished with 13 points and was the only Bishop to reach double figures.  April Wilson pulled down a team-high five boards, while J.D. Richardson recorded a game-high five steals.

The Bishops will continue USA South play on Monday night when they host Methodist College.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
