women fall on the road to Hornets, 90-46

The Shenandoah University women’s
basketball team snapped a four-game
losing streak with a 90-46 USA South
Conference victory over visiting
North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday
afternoon in Winchester. The loss
is the tenth straight for the
Bishops, who are now 4-14 on the
season, 1-8 in USA South action.
After being held
scoreless for the first four minutes
of the contest, SU reeled off a 9-0
run to take a lead it would not
relinquish. The Bishops refused to
fold however, and trailed by just
seven with 9:01 to play. The Hornets
then scored 25 of the closing 38
points in the half to take a 42-23
lead into the halftime lockerroom.
Shenandoah
extended this advantage to least 20
points when Alicia Sanders knocked
down three-pointer less than two
minutes into the second half. It
remained there the rest of the game.
The bulge became as many as 48
points before the Lady Bishops
scored the final four points of the
contest.
SU's Dee Fisher
led all scorers with 20 points,
while Valerie Samples added 18
points and eight assists. Sanders
had 15, Whitney French 12 and
Stephanie Harrold 11 to round out
the Hornets' double-digit scorers.
April Wilson led
Wesleyan with 14 points.
The Bishops
return home on Tuesday night to host
conference foe Christopher Newport.
Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. in
Everett Gymnasium.
