Bishop women end season with 81-50 loss at Ferrum

Ferrum, VA - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball team saw its 2006-07 season come to an end on Tuesday night when the 8th-seeded Bishops fell to top-seeded Ferrum by an 81-50 score in USA South Tournament first round play.  Wesleyan ends the season with a 4-21 overall record.

The first half saw both teams struggle offensively.  The Panthers managed to build a nine-point cushion at the break with a 27-18 lead.

Ferrum opened the second half with a 22-7 run that spanned the first seven and a half minutes of the period, forging a 24-point lead at 49-25.  It proved to be the difference-maker as the Bishops would not recover.  The Panther lead, in fact, grew to as large as 36 down the stretch.

FC's Quanita Bennett led all scorers with 13 points on the night.  Tonya Wright added 12, while Tiesha Terry and Miranda Carrasco each chipped in 11.

Tuesday's loss ended the four-year careers of J.D. Richardson, April Wilson, and Liz Ansley.  Wilson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Richardson turned in seven points and four assists.  Junior Lawanda Scott recorded the game's lone double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Shameika Faircloth rounded out NCWC's double-figure scorers with 10 points.
