Scott powers Bishop women to 72-53 win over Eastern

Madison, NJ - Junior forward Lawanda Scott scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds in leading her North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball squad to a dominating 72-53 win over Eastern University at the 2007 Fairleigh-Dickinson Craig Keeler Invitational.  Scott (pictured), who grabbed a game-high nine boards in Friday's 71-57 loss to Ramapo, was named All-Tournament.

Senior guard J.D. Richardson also turned solid performances, averaging 12 points per game in the two-day tournament.  The Bishops are now 3-4 overall.

In Saturday's action, Wesleyan held Eastern to just 25 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and took a 38-23 lead into intermission.

The Bishops opened the second half with a 17-7 run that pushed their advantage to 25 at 55-30 with 9:43 remaining.  Wesleyan did not look back in securing their third win of the season.

As a team, the Bishops shot over 42 percent from the floor in the game.  Scott's 24 led all scorers, while Richardson chipped in the 14 of her own.  Senior April Wilson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Raya Shores and Hannah Tobin paced Eastern (1-8) with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

On Friday, Ramapo managed a slim 30-29 lead at halftime before pulling away late in the second half for the 71-57 win.  Wilson and Richardson were Wesleyan's lone double-figure scorers with 15 and 10.

NCWC managed just 29 percent from the floor in the second half and committed 29 turnovers on the night, which proved to be the difference in the game.

The Bishop women return to action on Wednesday when they open up USA South Conference play against Peace College.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Everett Gymnasium.
