White's
triple-double lifts CNU over Bishop women, 64-53

- Sophomore Kelly White turned in a
rare triple-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 11
blocks on Tuesday night, lifting her Captains of Christopher
Newport to a 64-53 win over homestanding North Carolina
Wesleyan. After holding a slim 29-28 halftime lead,
the Bishops shot just 20 percent from the floor in the
second half en route to the loss. CNU improves to 10-2
overall, 5-0 in league play, while Wesleyan drops to 4-7 on
the season, 1-4 in conference action.
The game saw four ties and
eight lead changes before the Captains were able to pull
away in the second half. The Bishops forced 27 CNU
turnovers and committed only 10, but Wesleyan struggled at
the free throw line at just 39 percent accuracy (7-of-18).
CNU won the battle of the boards 61-38.
Essence Chambers led the
Bishops with a team-high 13 points and three assists.
Senior Cheyenne Hall pulled down nine rebounds.
In addition to White's
performance for CNU, Chelsie Schweers added a game-high 16
points. Colandra Rollins turned in a double-double
with 14 points and 13 boards.
Wesleyan travels to
Greensboro College on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2:00
p.m.
