Second half run lifts Pride over Bishop women, 79-65
Rocky Mount, NC
- The women's basketball team of Greensboro College used an
11-2 run to start the second half to pull away from North
Carolina Wesleyan, earning a 79-65 USA South victory over
the Bishops on Saturday in Everett Gymnasium. The Pride, who
owned a slim 35-31 lead at the break, improve to 14-7 with
the win and boast an 11-3 league record. The Battling
Bishops drop to 7-14 overall, 4-11 in conference play.
Greensboro led by as many as nine in the first half, but a
three-pointer by Bishop sophomore Courtney Brown capped an
11-2 Wesleyan run to pull the two teams even at 16-16 with
11:23 remaining. GC's Nikki Wilborn answered with a
trey of her own less than a minute later to put the Pride
back on top, and Greensboro would not trail again.
GC's
Danielle Duncan led all scorers with 22 points and 11
rebounds. Dione Eccles added 15, while Ashley Burnette
chipped in 11 points and dished out five assists.
For
Wesleyan, Essence Chambers netted a team-high 16 points.
Shawnte Dickens and Desiree' Driver recorded 12 and 10
points, respectively. Cheyenne Hall and Gretchen
Tobias each pulled down 11 boards.
The
Bishops return to action on Monday when Methodist University
visits Everett Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 5:30
p.m.
