Hawks avenge early season loss to Bishops, 64-55
Murfreesboro,
NC
- Chowan University avenged an early
season loss to North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon,
downing the Bishops by a 64-55 score in women's basketball
action. The Hawks used an 11-3 run to start the second
period to turn a one-point halftime lead into a nine-point
advantage, which proved to be the final margin of victory.
With the loss, the Bishops now stand at 3-4 overall.
The Hawks (4-12) shot
52% from the floor in the first half and led by as many as
seven at one point. The Bishops were able to crawl back
into the game and looked to take a 32-31 lead into the
break. Chowan’s AJ O'Banion, however, hit two free throws
to close out the period, giving Chowan a 33-32 halftime
advantage.
Chowan never trailed in
the second half after its initial run. Although the Bishops
were able to put together a late rally, they would get no
closer than seven points down the stretch.
Wesleyan was led by
Nicole Williams’ 12 points and four assists. Freshman
Desiree’ Driver netted 11 points, while teammate Essence
Chambers chipped in 10.
The Hawks were led by

steals, and two assists. The Hawks’ Najah Harris added 16
points.
