Chambers' 21 gives Bishop women first league win

Raleigh, NC - Junior Essence Chambers (pictured) poured in a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds on Tuesday night, leading her North Carolina Wesleyan women's basketball squad to its first league win of the season in a 66-54 defeat of homestanding Peace College. The Bishops, who led 32-25 at the break, shot 48 percent in the second half en route to the 12-point victory.  Wesleyan is now 4-4 on the season, 1-1 in USA South action.

Trailing 17-7 with 12:22 remaining in the first half, head coach John Brackett was forced to call timeout.  Following the stoppage in play, the Bishops responded with a 16-5 run to go up 23-22 at the 3:27 mark.

The final tie of the game came less than a minute later at 25-25.  Wesleyan went on to close out the period with a 7-0 run and never trailed again.

Freshman Desiree' Driver complimented Chambers' play with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Nicole Williams added 12 points and dished out three assists.

For Peace, Candra Hill recorded a team-high 14 points.

Wesleyan continues USA South play on Saturday when the Bishops travel to Shenandoah University for a 2:00 p.m. match-up with the Hornets.
