Wesleyan women drop close match with St. Andrews, 1-0

Rocky Mount, NC - In Thursday afternoon women's soccer action at Scalf Field, the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan dropped a close match with visiting St. Andrews by a 1-0 score in their final regular season home game of 2006.  SAPC's Tenille Inman netted the game's only goal in the 72nd minute, and the Knight defense did the rest down the stretch to secure the victory.

St. Andrews moves to 8-9-0 with the win, while the Bishops drop to 4-8-1 with the loss.

SAPC goalie Garrison Burton and NCWC goalie Sarah Hess did their jobs in the first half, combining for three saves to send the two squads into the break in a scoreless tie.

Inman finally broke through for the Knights at the 71:06 mark when she booted home a pass from Chrisy Stapleton that split two Bishop defenders.  It would be the only offense the game saw.

Burton earned the win after facing eight shots and making two saves.  Hess faced 14 Knight shots and recorded six saves on the day.  St. Andrews earned five corner kicks to only one for Wesleyan.

The Bishops will travel to Meredith College this weekend for games with the host Angels and Salem College.  Saturday's game is slated for 12:30 p.m.
