Averett steals late 2-1 victory from
Wesleyan women
Danville, VA -
For the second time in 2006
conference play, the Bishop women's
soccer team of North Carolina
Wesleyan gave up a game-winning goal
with 37 seconds remaining. The
Bishops, who dropped a heartbreaking

ago, fell to Averett on Friday by
the same fate. Wesleyan wraps up
its regular season slate with a
5-10-1 overall record, including
2-5-0 mark in USA South action.
The Bishops held a 1-0 lead at
intermission but gave up two
unanswered goals in the second
half. Aubrey Bonorden scored
Wesleyan's lone goal on a
Meredith Hester cross in the
21st minute.
AU's Krissy Dueterman tied the
game for the Cougars (9-7-0,
4-3-0) with an unassisted goal
in the 73rd minute, setting the
stage for Kristen McCartney's
gamewinner at the 89:23 mark.
Lisa Witt was credited with the
assist.
Bishop goalie Sarah Hess took
the loss after facing ten shots
and recording four saves. AU
keeper Gretchen Sheperty faced
nine shots and made three saves
en route to the win.
The Bishops are now the #6 seed
in next week's USA South
Conference Tournament.
Wesleyan will travel to
third-seeded Christopher Newport
on Tuesday, October 31st for
first round action beginning at
7:00 p.m.
