Bishop women down Shenandoah on Parent's Day, 2-0

Rocky Mount, NC - The North Carolina Wesleyan women's soccer team celebrated 2006 Parent's Day in style on Saturday, picking up its first USA South win with a 2-0 shutout of Shenandoah.  Meredith Hester and Rachel Rosenbarker both scored second half goals for the Bishops, who outshot the Hornets 24-9 on the day.

Wesleyan (1-1-1, 1-0-0) squandered numerous scoring opportunities in the opening period, narrowly missing several goals.  Hornet goalie Lauren Elliott kept her team in the game by making seven saves in the half, which ended in a 0-0 tie.

NCWC's Hester broke through at the 52:01 mark when she tapped home a Reva McCloud cross that proved to be the gamewinner.  Rosenbarker added an insurance goal six minutes later on a headed corner kick that Tori Tenner delivered perfectly into the box.

The 2-0 lead was more than enough for Bishop goalies Cary Trump and Bryanne Godfrey, who shared the shutout after notching two saves apiece.  Elliot finished with nine saves for SU.

Wesleyan returns to action at home on Wednesday when they continue USA South play with Christopher Newport.  Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
