Bishop women
drop two close contests over
weekend

In weekend soccer action, the
Bishop women of North Carolina
Wesleyan dropped two close
contests on the road.
Wesleyan fell to USA South foe
Ferrum by a 2-1 score in
overtime on Saturday. The
Bishops were then shutout 2-0 by
Bridgewater on Sunday. The
two losses leave NCWC with a
4-10-0 overall record and 3-4-0
league mark entering the final
week of the regular season.
At Ferrum on
Saturday, Corinne Musanti gave
the Panthers a 1-0 lead at the
break with a goal just 15
seconds before intermission.
The score came on a Jessica
Lively corner kick.
The Bishops
managed to tie the score in the
59th minute when Reva McCloud
booted home a Rachel Rosenbarker
assist. The two teams
battled it out over the next 30
minutes, but neither could net
the game-winner.
In overtime,
Sarah Palastro ended the contest
with a goal in the 94th minute.
LaQuinita Garrett was credited
with the assist as Ferrum moved
to 4-9-2, 3-4-0 with the win.
The Panthers
out-shot NCWC 9-3 on the day.
FC's Katie Hodkinson made one
save to earn the win, while
Wesleyan keepers Sarah Hess and
Bryanne Godfrey split time
between the pipes, allowing one
goal apiece.
Bridgewater
College (8-9-0) celebrated
Senior Day on Sunday with a 2-0
victory. The win and shutout
marked the second straight for
the Eagles. The game was
the Bishops' final
non-conference game of the
season.
Bridgewater took the lead in the
first half when Krista Ready
took a pass from Kristen Harris
and chipped it over the goalie's
head for the goal. BC added an
insurance goal in the second
half when Harris scored on a
penalty kick.
The Eagles
out-shot Wesleyan 18-12 on the
day. Godfrey made four
saves and suffered the loss in
goal. BC keeper Brooke
Barham picked up the win,
tallying seven saves on the day.
Wesleyan
travels to Christopher Newport
on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m.
match-up with the Captains.
