McCloud leads
Bishops to split in women's
soccer action
Laurinburg, NC
- Junior Reva McCloud (pictured)
scored two goals on Saturday to
lead her North Carolina Wesleyan
women's soccer team to a 2-0 USA
South win over Peace College,
snapping a six-game losing
streak in the process. The
Battling Bishops, who fell to
St. Andrews Presbyterian by the
same score on Sunday, are now
2-7-0 on the season, 1-2-0 in
conference play.
Against Peace
on Saturday, the two teams
fought through a scoreless first
half as Pacer goalie Sherry
Revels and Bishop keeper Sarah
Hess combined for 15 saves.
McCloud
booted home the eventual
game-winner in the 74th minute
off of a Mayra Gomez corner
kick. She added an
insurance goal in the 87th
minute thanks to a Meredith
Hester assist.
Hess finished
with 16 saves on the day en
route to her first win of the
season.
At St.
Andrews on Sunday, Wesleyan
again found itself knotted in a
scoreless game at the break.
Unfortunately, it was the
Knights who broke through in the
second half with goals by Myra
Miller and Hannah Sheffield.
NCWC out-shot
SAPC 13-11 on the day, but the
Knights' Garrison Burton tallied
nine saves to preserve the
shutout. Hess allowed both
goals and made four saves before
exiting in the 64th minute in
favor of junior Bryanne Godfrey.
Wesleyan
returns to USA South action next
Saturday when the Bishops host
Mary Baldwin College. Game
time is slated for 12:00 p.m. at
Scalf Field.
